Looking back through the covered section at the top of the stairs, the observation bunkers on the high points and the ocean. California is off in that direction. A long ways away. The parking area visible to the left of the column is at the entrance to Battery 407 which was built during WWII. Apparently the plan was to salvage some guns from the Arizona and mount them there, but it was never done.
