This is just beyond where the alarm button is mounted. The rounded corner was originally part of one of the outside gun pits, the 4 mortars sat in two pits on either side of the central bunker. Battery Birkhimer was armed with the same type of 12 inch mortars that were used in Battery Harlow. There are photos of the guns in that album.
